Commentary Guidelines
SuddenWorld welcomes you to provide responses or insights regarding any of its blog postings, all in the interest of promoting cross-cultural perspectives. In order to post comments, readers will have to register with the website.
If you are posting a comment for the first time, your comment will enter an administrative queue subject to approval and/or moderation by the website administrator (yours truly). If your comment has met all of the criteria listed in the guidelines below, expect a turnaround time of no more than 24 hours. I reserve the right to abbreviate commentary for editorial purposes on a case by case basis.
After your first posted comment has been approved and published, you can post freely afterwards without having to queue for approval. However, I will hold up and in all likelihood delete comments observed to be violating any of the guidelines listed below. Persistent violations of said guidelines may result in the cancellation of the offending user’s account.
Guidelines for Posting Comments
1. In general, please maintain a civil discourse in discussing any and all topics. Matters regarding culture and ethnicity can be very sensitive matters, so please always keep that in mind. It’s okay to be passionate about what you’re writing, but keep that passion pure by resisting any compulsions towards mindless ranting. The purpose of this website is to promote productive, not destructive, dialogue.
2. Threats of violence are not acceptable means of discourse and will not be tolerated on this website.
3. Refrain from using ad hominem arguments. This is a very fancy way of saying don’t let any disagreements devolve into personal attacks. Arguments are made on the merit of their reasoned content, not on boorish insults or demonstrating flagrant contempt of another’s perspective just because it doesn’t happen to agree with your own.
4. Relating to #3, avoid using ethnic slurs, stereotypes, and other culturally insensitive remarks. This applies to all ethnic and cultural groups.
5). Ignore comments by individuals who perpetrate “trolling.” Trolling is defined as the act of someone who deliberately posts an absurd or outrageous comment with the sole intention of provoking a hostile reaction. Pay no mind to such negative attention-seekers, because that’s precisely what they want.
